Initially, Rinzler is presented as a formidable, masked program serving CLU (Codified Likeness Utility), the tyrannical ruler of the Grid. He is CLU's enforcer, known for his exceptional fighting skills and unwavering loyalty.
However, it is eventually revealed that Rinzler is actually a reprogrammed version of Tron, the security program originally created by Alan Bradley. CLU corrupted and repurposed Tron, transforming him into the ruthless Rinzler.
